For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Warning! As of 1/12/25, the washers and dryers are inoperable and there is no hot water in the showers/restroom. Never mentioned upon check-in. :(

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: This Fam Camp used to be the place to go. It has gone down, way down hill in the last couple years. I think all the money was allotted to Fam camp went to build that New outdoor Rec office. The wifi never works, electricity goes out quite often. Sites are very small and close to each other and no one ever picks up there dogs droppings. The bugs are terrible and nothing works to keep them away. There lots of Snakes roaming around. Our neighbor had one under her stairs one morning. You are responsible for cutting your own grass and sodding it when they have Sod. The Staff can be very rude when you complain and there are many with attitude. Maybe someday they will fix the Famcamp but for now we wont be back.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: The Staff was extremely helpful & courtesy. Much appreciation ? The base & location are fantastic! Why 3 Stars? BUGS …. They’re HORRENDOUS….

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Stayed here for a couple of day did not find it to be as great as the word that i have heard. Was expecting a lot more than what was there. In all the famcamps that i have been to this is the first in where they assessed points for you not mowing your grass and trash around your camp or even play toys that your kids might have left out. The staff was not friendly at all showed up after hours looked for the camp. Hoist could find he or him any where it was like just pick the camp you wanted and so be it. How the work got around that this was one of the best some one must have been sleeping. Las vagus is a lot better that is a Air Force FamCamp that should be number one.. i would say that some of the other ones are a lot better also. This is not the standard for the Air Force not by a long shot. Hay MacDill get your ducks to feather and than maybe you could be number uno.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: The reason i chose 3 stars is that the staff was not helpfull at all and wanted to much information. As long as i hold a retired id or required id to stay that’s all i feel they need. Most retired persons know that you need to have current regard insurance for what you have. I have stayed at over 40 famcamp through out the us and have never been treated like this. I have been trying to stay here for over a year because of what others have told me about this place,”being the number one famcamp”. For the Air Force i would argue that point. The place that i would spend. My time would be at Davis Momoth AFB in Tucson AZ. The complaints that i would have is it doesn’t seem like they spray the area at all for chiggers or masquido or other insects. I will say that the BX and commissary was comparator any other base. They also need to update their directions to the base/ famcamp

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Showed up looking for first come first serve as they’ve been booked for reservations through Mar for months. Came in through main gate, note: if bringing a guest who doesn’t have a valid military ID you will need to pull into the visitors center before the gate to get a pass. We are in a dry site now, which is right on the bay with only one other camper, and were told that a full h/u site should be available within 2-3 days. So far this place is amazing, tons of perks and amenities, dog runs/beach, dump station, water, propane, so not sure I even want to move to the full h/u because it’s so private at dry camp and right on the bay. Will add update after I spend more time

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: It is a very pleasant place for families pets, esa and service dogs. Quietest place even in the daytime. Paradise in Tampa. One of the finest mwr campgrounds. Lots of full timers, but very neat organized and nothing sloppy. Air activity is at a distance, not overhead, so it’s still quiet despite having active air activity. All the amenities are just a bonus compared to a dnr site, which have been our preference till we arrived at this place. Camp hosts are delightful. There is plenty of things to do just outside the gates too. Base does close up early. There is often weather alerts as well. Even the dry camping and limited hookup spots are pristine. Dog beach is closed recently, but still plenty of space for dogs otherwise. All the children are very respectful and inclusive with each other it seems. Lots of fire ants. That’s Florida for ya. Office will give you some ground treatment for your site if you need it. Rules are enforced. Very safe place. Just remember to roll up your awning no matter what everytime you leave your site. Storms roll in with almost no notice, come and go. And your surrounded by water on the water, so the breeze is nice even on the hottest of days. Pavement is hot, for dogs, be mindful to walk them on grass midday but there are in some spots these tiny little cactus type things the size of a pea. Brutually painful. Haven’t seen a raccoon yet. But tons of wild rabbits. Some ticks, but not as many as other coastal areas.
