For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: We were there Feb./March 2015. Beautiful base!! The campground is Not DOD friendly.. We were there about 6 weeks and only got moved to partial hook up the last week and half of our stay..the rest of the time we were in dry camp. We were told since we are DOD we had to go to the bottom of the list and there would have to be a mass exodus for us to get hook ups. Even tho they were busy, there were empty camp sights. There were campers that looked as if they had been there for years . I think there could be better management of the campgrounds. The people at the marina go above and beyond to help. Seascapes was a very nice , just hard to figure out their hours.
The web sight says DOD eligible, but it needs to clarify that.
Not sure about going back, it is a really pretty camp and they do offer many activities.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: We spent our first winter from Dec. 3 to April 1 ,2015 at the famcamp. We learned how to rotate spots and yes did not enjoy dry camp, however the beauty of the beach, the wonderful people we spent most days with made it all a great place. Office manager Deb could not have done more for us, she was wonderful as were April and Bill.Looking.forward to our next season there! Just hoping the seascape has more to offer.mgv

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Nice location. Good laundry room and shower room.
But so many things bring it down. First they need to stop advertising there is WiFi, there isn't.
Next, most of the sites are occupied by homesteaders. The policy is you can stay for 6 months which is kind of ridiculous for a sought after location. Other Florida FamCamps limit stays on FHUs to 2 weeks to 30 days in order to ensure all authorized customers get a shot to use the benefit we all earned.
As a result of homesteading parts of the Famcamp looks like a trailer park from downtown. The drycamp area is atrocious with seeming abandoned RVs and boats littering the field. Several with high weeds growing there.
Bottom line a nice place with potential but it really needs to be better managed.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Jan 8th we stayed here for 3 nights. $15/day. We could park anywhere in the overflow field. Theread is a beach, activities, restaurant near the camp ground. The base had everything you need. Great walking/running path with great view of the bay. Will go back. Oh, the 2nd day we were offered full hooh up.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Stayed here the 14/15 July. Nice place, tent camping does not have pads, which is ok as it allowed me the ability to position my tent where I wanted under the trees. The place is dog friendly if your in a RV but my understanding was no pets for tent campers. service dogs are ok for tent camping. The marina has lots of rental equipment from grills to coolers fishing poles and boats. The place has a clean laundry and bath house. RV pads are very nice. I would stay again but I'd prefer to rent a RV pad to be closer to the water. I didn't ask if that was an option.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Spent a long weekend here in Jan-2014. Had a great time! Spent one night in dry camp before being called to move to a full-hookup site. Clean and HOT showers. Beautiful beach, well maintained facility. Can't wait to come back! Sue from Portland, Maine.

Mr. Dan
For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: The person that checked us in was helpful and pleasent. He let us drive around the campground first to select our site. Plenty of sites to chose from since it is only about 15% occupied. However, that's to be expected in early Sep. The campground is being upgraded. They are replacing most concrete pads. Half of the campground utility hookups are upgraded. Wifi on our site was strong. We were two rows over from the laundry facility. A large shower area was also located within the laundry bldg. The showers could have been a little cleaner. The restrooms were ok. A marina is next door to the campground. The little marina store seems to be a bit pricy ( but aren't they all that way). A beach and bar/restaurant is also located next to the campground. There is a very large RV / boat storage area behind the campground. My guess is by the number of units stored there this campground will be tough to get into during the peak season. Is it perfect...no. But it is a darn good value and it will serve your purpose.
