For Holloman AFB FamCamp: I normally do not give surveys or reviews of locations that I go to but in this case I will…
We originally planned stayed here for 7 days in the middle of January 2020 but after pulling in we stayed 2 nights.
First getting onto this insulation was a pain in the ass… They only had the main gate open on a weekday. There are 3 lanes, NO RVs can go through 2 left lanes due to extremely narrow cement barriers. To get on you must go through the far right lane and wait and wait and wait for security.. after 15 minutes of waiting I had to honk several times finally came out.
As a kid I was raised military. I personally did 32 years... So basically every military installation no matter what branch that I’ve been to for the most part has been cleaned, organized looking good, and dressed right dressed.
Every single military camp ground that I have stayed to this point have been pretty nice, managed very well, was very clean and organized.
I will give pros and cons of this facility.
This camp ground is $20 per night on the honor system paying cash or check, first come first serve. No credit card. In my opinion it’s over priced and paying by cash someone or camp ground host could pocket cash.
PRO’s:
This campground appears to be fairly new, all sites have water, electrical & sewer with a table, most have shade some don’t. 75% of the sites have nice long cement pads only wide enough for an RV but not wide enough to use as a porch. Each site has great views of the mountains.
10 min drive to White Sands national Monument. There are laundry facilities at this campground only a $1 to wash/ dry, 3 sets.
I will say this; the campground host does keep the bathrooms showers and laundry facilities very clean.
The showers are big and clean with plenty of warmish water, not extremely hot unfortunately.
CONS:
Many RV sites really look like crap. I am very surprised and disappointed that the campground host, MWR, or base command does not enforce tidiness.
Space #1 as you first come in has a bunch of crap underneath RV to include “extra†packages of toilet paper.. There are many other spaces with a ton of miscellaneous crap like utilitytrailers, buckets, storage containers laundry soap bottles laying on the ground under the door, big storage cargo bags laying under RV’s. Miscellaneous motorcycles, broken down go karts , quads with covers on them. One can see who has been staying forever, when they have fixed wooden steps going into their RV.
One would think that the campground host would lead by example; which in this case they are. 75% of the sites that are the furthest away from the freeway, that are all backed up against the wall; all have the backwoods dirty white trash ghetto mentality with crap strung all over everywhere. The campground host in #8 have 3 huge dogs with a 4’ portable fence going around there area and just a ton of eye sore crap all over. Other spaces are the same to keep dogs in and a major amount of eyesore crap every where.
Others have portable storage sheds behind their units, outdoor refrigerators, outdoor freezers, generators outside underneath, big wooden dresser that would go into a home being used outside the RV.
Many people, Instead of getting Heated hose, many have insulation with duct tape around the hose… When I checked in with host, her husband was in the process of skinning an animal from a hunt. This kind of crap is something I would have expected from a rough neck working camp or other side of the tracks NOT a military community.
Yes I realize this is a military installation and is a training facility for fighter jets, it is very very noisy most of the time. It’s just not noisy due to the jets, this campground is 30 yards away from a major highway and you can constantly hear traffic up and down at all hours of the day and night..
In my opinion this camp ground had piss poor planning when built and not keeping in mind of handicap personnel. At each space the septic connections are 10â€-12†way above grade making it extremely difficult for dumping / flushing your tanks and the flow of septic, the electric hook up box is also very low 18†off the ground and one must get on knees to connect, the water connection are under grade / ground in a box making it very difficult to connect must get on hands and knees to connect.
Out of the MANY military installations we have been to or stayed, it does not matter what branch, this military installation is the worst that we’ve ever been to for camp grounds, we had planned to be here 7 nights and only stayed 2. NEVER again will we come back.
I TRULY doubt that higher up command will read this or even correct situation.
Over & out..

For Holloman AFB FamCamp: Called the day of to make an overnight reservation. I was told it was first come, first serve. Arrived that evening and the campground was full. They allowed use to park our RV in the nearby empty lot and dry camp for $3.00. Women's shower/bathroom was out of order due to remodeling. Highway noise noticeable in the morning. Ok for overnight.

For Holloman AFB FamCamp: Average park. Nothing bad to say about it in particular, but I wouldn’t want to stay terribly long. We stayed for two nights and were ready to get back on the road. We were just stopping to see family so the camp did the trick. Best value for your dollar in the area. Had no issues with Google Maps taking us all the way to the entrance.

For Holloman AFB FamCamp: Do NOT follow Louisa’s directions! The directions on the site are correct.
Nice little FamCamp with staff and base personnel who care about customer service. From the friendly host and CE troops repairing a water issue to the MWR guys addressing a tv cable issue, they were all excellent.
Camp was clean and maintained.
The floor in the men’s shower does need attention
I’ll be back.

For Holloman AFB FamCamp: We’re full timers and retired military so we travel a lot and don’t stay too long anywhere. We enjoyed our stay here but the directions to find it were not clear. Once you enter the base just turn right after the entrance, continue past the exchange and commissary and eventually you will arrive there. Di not follow the gps. Great views of the mountains but the men’s shower was full of roaches.

For Holloman AFB FamCamp: We found this to be a very nice clean famcamp. Was really close to White Sands and Alamogordo. Had concerns before we arrived based on previous reviews but found that the camp appearance must have changed since those reviews. Laundry facilities were good all sites were clean and well kept with all hook ups and nice roof structure over the picnic table. The shower in men's bathroom was broken so had to use the women's shower but door was lockable was it was clear to enter. Camp host was not very sociable but was also not in your face about petty stuff. The base golf course was very reasonable for price but was in tough shape with all the dirt in the fairways. But they were preparing the course for seeding in the spring. We will definitely stay here again if in the area.

Ski
For Holloman AFB FamCamp: This FamCamp needs a good rebuild. Showers need upgrade. No fire pits, weeds need pulling, landscape the trees. Put some $$$ into the camp.
