For Illinois Beach State Park: This park is in an absolutely beautiful location on Lake Michigan with stunning views, particularly from the close to the water 300 sites. I give it a three because it’s a tired park that has not been upgraded. It’s too bad that the state has not seen fit to take better care of it. Still, it’s worth the stay. We did not use the bath facilities, travel in a class A.

For Illinois Beach State Park: I’ve been coming here for years. It’s home base for us. The facilities are bad. Bathrooms and showers are outdated. But Illinois finally passed a bill for improvements so multi million dollar renovations are on the way!! The dunes are amazing and you can’t beat the views at sunrise/sunset. Also full moon weekends are are awesome.

Martha

For Illinois Beach State Park: This is a beautiful campground on the shore of Lake Michigan, a real gem of a spot. That being said, my 4 star review reflects two problems: the lack of level sites, and the condition of the restrooms. We stayed on site 305 in our 17’ camper. As far as we could see, none of the sites had been leveled in years. The restrooms are old facilities, and there are only two buildings in the park. The showers are the push button type, and were very difficult to push, particularly in the handicap stall on the women’s side. The age of the restroom facilities and the lack of level sites reflect the budgetary crisis in the state of Illinois, which is a real shame. We would still come here again, it is a beautiful spot and Lake Michigan is stunning.

For Illinois Beach State Park: We stayed here for a week in July 2017. This was a nice park and close to the train to visit Chicago. It was an hour and a half ride from the Waukegan which was about 15 minutes from the campground.

The campground was very close to the beach. The beach front was pretty, but the buildings surrounding the beach are run down and boarded up.

We had decent cell service for internet. Electricity, but no water hookups. Water spigot across the road. Dump station nearby.

Our biggest complaint was the mosquitoes! They are HORRIBLE! Everywhere.

Nice friendly staff, but checkout wasn't until 3pm so we had to wait about 3 hours before we could get to our site. :( We would stay here again - it wasn't awful, but we might look for somewhere else first.

For Illinois Beach State Park: A great site. Most of the sites in the 100 and 200 are level for a class A. Need to watch the 300 row, if you are short you will be fine otherwise you will need A lot of blocks

For Illinois Beach State Park: Visited in Late April, still off-season. Campground dead on a rainy weekend. Most sites flooded and muddy, and very unlevel. Couldn't risk our heavy Class A, so we parked on the pavement spots, which are essentially a parking lot. Just like a rest area. No space between sites. Literally none. Bathrooms were dingy. Way too few bathrooms for the number of sites. Given grief twice about registering. The first time we had just pulled in and they watched us, then came by to say "you're going to register right?" The gate attendant told us to find a spot and come back to register. The second time our little paper tag came off the post in the thunderstorm. The guy acted like we were trying to get away with something.
