For Minneiska - Whitewater State Park: Camped five nights Sun-Thur Sep 15-19 w/reservations on site 223 in the Minnieska area; seemed to be lots of availability though. Clean, quiet and good privacy; great hiking trails and a good looking trout stream. Kayaking maybe available downstream at Elba where the branches of the Whitewater join. The historic fire tower in Elba is worth the climb to the top ... 500+ stairs up the bluff just to the base of the 110' tower! No Verizon signal but Pure Talk service worked.

For Minneiska - Whitewater State Park: This popular and mosquito free state park in a valley in southeast Minnesota has lots to offer. There have been many improvements done to the park in the last decade. All the original campground road loops have been paved. The old restroom building has been replaced with a new, very modern restroom / shower facility. Vegetation has been allowed to grow up between all the sites. Just about all of the campsites in the original Cedar Hill campground are well spaced, level and reasonably private with good tree shade. Unfortunately many of the mature ash trees were removed due to emerald ash borer but most trees still remain. The biggest news is the addition of the new Minneiska campground with its own restroom building. This new campground is located just across the lightly traveled highway from the check in/visitor center and has large, very well spaced electric sites with small to medium sized trees that currently provide some decent shade. By 2030 these trees will be large enough to provide full shade to most sites. Hiking is what the park is known for. Many of the trails are moderate in difficulty with many stairs and uneven ground leading to spectacular views of the valley. Watch the youngest kids closely on these trails! The Whitewater river runs right through the park so bring your rods and tackle if you like trout fishing. I give this park a solid 5 stars due to the private campsites, new facilities and the many hiking trails.
