For Split Rock Park: I ended up at Split-Rock Park and Campground after finding the previous two campgrounds full. The previous site was Palisades State Park and the Ranger told me try Split-Rock. Luckily, I found this campground had a lot of available sites. I grabbed one even though I didn’t like it so much due to lack of privacy. Later I walked around and found that the park goes well beyond the dam and bathhouse, but by then I was too tired to move my site and correct my registration. I think signage showing campsite locations would be a big improvement. So, if you go, be sure to drive all the way back past the bath house. You will find a narrow road, take that and you will be rewarded with many more camping sites. For the fee they charge, I expected bathrooms with plumbing and even a shower. But no, they have installed port-a-potties and the bath house was not open when I was there. However, the scenery is beautiful, with a waterfall over a dam and trestle train-track over red bluffs. It is true that the train comes by through-out the night and blasts it horn for whatever reason. I was in a van, so the noise did not bother me that much. So, 5-stars for scenery, 1-star for no plumbed bathrooms. I’d say 3-stars overall.

For Split Rock Park: Very nice campground on Split Rock Creek. Well space and treed. Fine for our Cl;ass B only needing electricity. The park was built by the Federal Government (under FDR) in 1936. Too bad the bath house doesn’t seem to be open, but for $20 I’m not complaining.

For Split Rock Park: This is a beautiful campground with a wonderful waterfall and nice picnic area, but not really a big rig friendly park. It’s right beside a train track which runs every morning at about 0530 with 3 LONG whistle blows! Be prepared! We were in site 16 and 17, when we finally got level, we discovered that site 17 was 30 amp, not 50 as advertised, so we had to move to site 15, which was 50 amp but advertised as 30. We also didn’t realize that the only water available was one shared spigot in the park. Fortunately, we had extra hoses on board and were able to connect them and fill our tanks, so we made it work. They are working on the park, removing trees and making improvements. If they can get the sites leveled and add water, it would be a great campground for the $$$, $20/nite, it was a great value! Also, the manager, Bruce was very helpful and even answered my calls on the holiday weekend!!

For Split Rock Park: I've camped here overnight on two separate occasions. There's a spacious, grassy loop for tents at the north end of the campground. Clean, well kept, not crowded. Nice. I'd give it five stars if not for the railroad adjacent to the campground. The train comes through once or twice during the night. Wear ear plugs if you're in a tent. $10/night in 2016.
