For North Joshua Tree Area: The description in the app is a bit misleading. This is not a campground. There are no toilets. Instead, it's an amazing wide open space the likes of which don't exist in many places in the U.S. Thank you BLM. The good: vistas, freedom, mostly level!!! free. The bad: weekends can be a little crazy. Dirt bikes, bottle rockets, raves. But the place is so huge that you mostly won't notice. Pooping in a cat hole (BLM reccomends 6-8 inches) can be a very freeing experience. Just be sure to take your toilet paper with you and cover your tracks well for the next person.

For North Joshua Tree Area: Vast empty dirt area. A welcome option for free when the national park campgrounds were all full. We were thankful to have a quiet and legal place to park overnight.

For North Joshua Tree Area: Best way in is go North on Sunfair Rd about 10 miles west of 29 Palms on HWY 62. Go a couple of miles then turn right on Broadway for a mile. Pavement ends, continue straight and pick a spot. Our closest RV is over 1/4 mile away! Very handy to visit Joshua Tree Park. 29 Palms has all the services you will need.

For North Joshua Tree Area: About four miles north of the main road. Paved most of the way but a mile or so is packed sand. Gps directions are good. Big flat area with few campers. Lots is room to spread out. Road in is a little sandy and rough in one place but certainly doable. Walmart and laundry are nearby toward yucca valley. Free
