For Quarry Pond - Deception Pass State Park: This review is for the Quarry Pond CG which comprises 60 of the 360 sites at Deception Pass SP. The sparsely graveled sites are well laid out for back in spots. Generally level with very old table and fire ring. Water pressure about 45 psi with no flow issues through regulator and filter. There is no sewer hookup and the only dump station is too far away for a portable black tank. Toilet/Shower facility is totally inadequate, it is very old and in desperate need of significant repairs. Showers do not have stall doors with latch (only shower curtain) or benches. Although tokens are no longer needed, the showers are barely warm with fair pressure but no controls except direction for about 3 minutes. It was evident that the building was cleaned several times each day, but like "lipstick on a pig" it didn't help the very negative impression of the pealing floor covering and rusting fixtures. Additionally the 4 toilets & 2 showers in each of the 2 bathrooms is barely adequate for the 60 camp sites, took late 8:00 PM shower (showers off at 10:00 PM). The Cranberry Lake CG (~300 sites) has 5 toilet/shower buildings, so same ratio.
No TV or Internet but Verizon cellphone had fair service for hotspot. Gas Station with very overpriced mini mart was OK for gas and ice. Propane and firewood also available at inflated price. Rabbits, chipmunks and small birds everywhere with heavy park day-use on weekends. FA-18s made touch & goes over park after 9:30 AM to early evening; some very loud. Parking lot at West Beach not accessible due to repair work from winter storms not completed so only Cranberry Lake campers had reasonable access. Parking lot opened on last day (30 to 40% parking space reduction) but rain limited activity and large concession building with dining area and bathrooms still boarded up.
Generally, with the exception of the asphalt roads, all this State Park's facilities are in need of some repair which is totally inconsistent with the booked up nature of the campgrounds and the weekend day use we witnessed. Washington SPs generally do not have sewer hookups so the material condition of the Quarry Pond toilet/shower building is the primary reason for the poor rating. However the "last straw" was the sign near the dumpsters advising campers to take their recyclables home, that made me wish there was a "zero star" option.
Local POIs
Cranberry Lake - primarily for kayaking or fishing with large picnic area
Goose Rock (Steep hike fm Quarry Pond CG) - view better than DP Bridge
Deception Pass Bridge views are very good especially at max flood/ebb - Parking at bridge - short hike from Little North Beach - longer hike from West Beach
Roserio Beach just north of bridge - Good vista trail and tide pools
Two towns: Oak Harbor seem to be primarily support for NAS and Anacortes with marina and shops for visitors.

For Quarry Pond - Deception Pass State Park: Fairly disappointing for a Washington state park. we stayed at Quarry pond which is no where near the ocean as it's on the other side of the highway. Not walking anyways.

For Quarry Pond - Deception Pass State Park: Generally a good campground with access to beaches and scenic hiking trails. We arrived in mid-day, mid-July w/o reservations and got one of the last sites available, so pretty busy. OK, the jet noise was really loud when the Navy was practicing carrier landings up until about 11 pm. But then I'm x-Navy carrier type and haven't heard that noise in 46 years. Kinda brought back memories.

For Quarry Pond - Deception Pass State Park: Love this place always have. But major jet noise up until 12am all day long has destroyed it. Feel like I am in a war zone!

For Quarry Pond - Deception Pass State Park: Typically we've Camped at the Deception Pass State Park campground across hwy. 20 closer to the beach access. Quarry Pond is the only campground in the park open in winter. This worked well as we now have a larger camper and Quarry Pond can better accommodate mid to large sized rigs. Many sites were fairly private. Avoid sites too close to hwy. 20 due to road noise. Campground was well maintained. Fresh water is shut off for winter so bring your own or water is available at park maintenance building.
