For Ashley Lake North Campground: As of June 2019, it’s not worth the drive to get here. All 5 of the sites are (and according to locals, have been for some time) continuously occupied by what was described to us as a single group of extended families and friends, who together ensure all the sites remain in use at all times by someone from their group. Locals disagreed on the camp host’s potential role or position in this “appropriationâ€, which is supposedly implemented so as to technically be allowable under USFS rules. The several former “dispersed†camp sites near this little campground have recently been either posted “Day Use Only†by prominent USFS signs, or access to them has been blocked off by large boulders. The campground itself is “primitiveâ€, which also describes the condition of the short, deeply potholed dirt loop road within the campground. The view of the lake is beautiful, and access to the lake is easy. Unfortunately it’s not realistic to expect an open camp site here at this time.
