For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: The thick lava gravel make it hard to drive in when pulling my 40'toy hauler. But I did go far from any roads. After unhooking my toy hauler I had a blast ripping it up with my lifted Denali dually. Nice open areas for driving but camping in it is fun if you don't mind emptying your shoes a lot.

For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: Unlimited areas to park your rig of any size. We parked our 34’ motorhome in a large spot only about a mile in from route 89 and about a half mile before the OHV area. There are a number of spots there that will keep you away from the ATVs. It was reasonably quiet except we were close to the access road so some traffic noise. We were there for three days mid week so it was pretty peaceful.
We really enjoyed it but gave it only three stars as the road was a big washboard with many potholes. And we were too close to the road and traffic.

For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: Road off highway is somewhat rough, so we did not drive all the way down to the designated OHV site, and instead opted for FS camping in the trees, about a mile in. A few others camping in the area. Clean, quiet. Great overnight stop. Some soft spots so would not stay here if raining or snowing.

For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: Weekend Review: we were not going to stay as long as we did but decided to stay through the weekend and leave on Monday. I had already written a review which was during the week. Note: on the weekend the OHV Park gets really busy and if you don’t want ATV’s and other off road vehicles buzzing around your campsite you need to be able to set up perimeters that keeps them away from spoiling your camping fun. We saw cones put out and others had roping with flags on them to warn people to ride on the hundreds of other acres. Many of them were ATV’s with kids or teens and probably did not realize so that would be where parents need to teach in advance! Best time is come in on. Sunday evening and leave on Friday morning!

For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: When you first pull in you will see camping places but keep going down Forest Road 777/776 past the Sign designated OHV area and you will find lots of open places to camp. We have a 43 ft toy hauler with a Kawasaki Teryx 4 seater we want to ride. Beautiful spots under the trees and lots of trails. Views from the top of the hills are great. This is the Sunset Crater Volcano area so the ground is black cinder. We came in on a Tuesday evening and met two people who gave us the scoop. One was in his OHV and showed us where to go and the other guy had been here for 2 1/2 months with his RV and Suzuki Samurai. We camped off of 776 as the road splits. We will be back!

For Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle OHV Area: I camped in this dispersed area on October 21 2019 in a 18' Teardrop trailer pulled by a Ram 1500 4x4. I was within 1/2 mile of Route 89 and heard traffic noises. This gravel road is ok but has some washboard areas. People with OHV's go up and down the road periodically. I found a number of places to park. Big rigs will have limited choices. This was my first dispersed camping experience so it was fine. In the future I will want to be further from civilization, however. Gave it 3 stars because of proximity to highway.
