For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: After seeing the poor reviews we were hesitant but decided to turn in and take a look. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the road was fine and the campground was nicer than you would expect for a place in the desert. The rest rooms (pit toilets) look new and several of the sites have gazebos and new picnic tables on concrete slabs. Every site has a view of the reservoir and there is no artificial light except from the campers. We found a pull through that was perfect for our 24’ Class C towing a Wrangler.

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: The reservoir is drying up, and the facilities are ill maintained. The camping area marked on Allstays was blocked by road closure, so we took the turn to the west and found another being used by a few campers. One of the vault toilets was obviously leaking, creating a sewerage marsh. That, combined with open trash cans, resulted in lots of flies. This is a Bureau of Reclamation site, and desperately needs reclamation . It COULD be very nice, with lakeside camping. Caution - the dark sand near the waters edge is like quicksand. I sank to my ankles. .

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: OMGee the stars out here! Worth the unpaved trek off 191: two miles of slow going, rough gravel road. Take a left at the Big Sandy sign for actual campground, but there’s space all around the lake for camping. Stay on rocks near water, mucky edges might try to eat your chacos: kiddos renamed the spot “Quick Sandy Reservoir.â€

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: We loved it! Roads are fine at 10mph. We have a 32 ft Class C with a 22 ft trailer. No problems with parking. So many places to camp! The lake was beautiful and view of the mountains spectacular.
Brand new pit toilets that were very clean. We hated to leave this peaceful, beautiful place.

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: Big Sandy Recreation/Resv. about ten miles north of Farson. off highway 191. Here is why i would not go back TWO MILES OF WASH BOARD ROADS.
If you do go make a LEFT turn at the Big Sandy Sign. Did have garbage, picnic tables and fire pits. To many small bugs flying around.. could not get to the water easily. Pit toilets available. Still free.

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: A truly awesome place to camp. Pick any spot around the lake. (There are a few in one area with trash cans and fire rings.) the dirt road from the highway is slow going but we made it easily in our class c during dry weather. Views are amazing! Lake is glorious! Maybe my favorite Boondocking experience yet!

For Big Sandy Reservoir - USBR: This is a great location to boondock. There is a picnic table, fire ring, and garbage can at all sites. It is first come first serve. Free range cows are wandering around everywhere and the stars are awesome. The vault toilets were very nasty.
