This is a dry, peaceful, secluded campground about 5 miles up a lightly washboarded gravel road. It sits in the foothills of the Caliente range, and as such, is surrounded by hills, rather than open plain. Only a few sites have a view of the open plain, which is limited to about 60 degrees in width of field. Winds are fairly brisk in the summer afternoons, but die down quickly after sunset. As of August 2016, fires were not permitted, even in fire rings. Bathrooms are clean, and the campground in general does not feel heavily frequented. This is one of the quietest places that you'll ever find -- there is no sound from civilization whatsoever, including planes or traffic.
