Romany Life
For McHood Park Campground: We agree with the other reviews here. We have a very large rig, and had no problem accessing the park, not terribly far off of I-40. There is the low clearance bridge as stated in other reviews, but it's fine. The access road to the park is newly paved and very wide, super nice. It is peaceful and orderly and well-kept. We did not use the bathroom facilities but they looked clean and well kept. The park host for the summer was there and he is a very friendly, welcoming person and we really enjoyed visiting with him when he came by to take down our information. He runs the park very well and makes sure things are as they should be. The day use area on the other side of the water is beautiful and interesting with large rocks and cliffs, we took several walks in the area. We would definitely stay here again, short trip into Winslow to get your picture "standin' on the corner" and sample the local Navajo fry bread for $1! Delicious! www.RomanyLife.com

Crystal
For McHood Park Campground: This was such a nice surprise, when we had been staying on BLM land through several rainstorms, worrying about getting stuck in the mud, and here they have paved pull throughs for big rigs. There is a beautiful view of clear Creek river, and restrooms are on the premises although we didn’t try them. Swimming is allowed, as well as kayaking, and Seadoos. It even looked like people were fishing. The camp host unit looked a bit shabby but other than that it was pretty nice. Trash receptacles are available as well. The maximum stay is 14 days.
One thing to be aware of if you are in a class A though is that there is a 14’-6†bridge on the route there which can also get flooded during rainy season.
A great find though, and completely free.

Beverly
For McHood Park Campground: We loved this little park which is much nicer than the
description here. There are a lot more than eleven sites. The
restroom is clean and there is a shower. I didn't try the shower as
there was only cold water at the sink. The view of the little
reservoir made the stay quite pleasant. Out is dog friendly and
campfires wee allowed. There is a caregiver on site. Obviously one or
two campers have been here well more than the 14 date stay limit. I
am hoping they do not ruin this sweet deal for the rest of you. We
were concerned for this reason when we made a day trip, but came back
to find all in order.

Marie
For McHood Park Campground: Great, free spot. Two areas of McHood Park - south across the bridge is day use only. Turn left just before the bridge and drive in a mile or so. No hookups, but garbage cans at each site, some tables. We had a great spot next to the water. Pretty and lots of birds to watch. Easy drive from Winslow - or, as the locals call it, Windsblow?. ;-)

For McHood Park Campground: An unexpected treasure is found nestled in an arid landscape. This free campground features a beautiful river, swimming, toilets and park benches with covered rest areas. Well worth the drive.
