For Whittaker Campground: This is a fantastic campground with everything you could possibly need - full hookup lots, traditional camping lots, public bathrooms. The owner is incredibly friendly and as old-school West Virginia as they come. If you need help, rest assured he’s there to lend a helping hand or knows someone that can help. As the other reviewers mentioned, there is ZERO cell service in the campground or the surrounding 25 miles due to the National Quiet Zone for the Greenbank Observatory right nearby (worth a visit). It’s perfectly situated between Cass Historic Railroad (5 minutes drive) and Snowshoe (10-15 minute drive). We leave our camper through the winter while we visit Snowshoe for snowboarding and know Mr. Gum, the owner, is keeping a watchful eye!

For Whittaker Campground: Stayed 2 nights in our Airstream along with our friends in their motor home. We went on the Cass train tide, it is fantastic, don’t miss it. The campground is rustic but all utilities work, the owner is very friendly and helpful with anything you need. There is no cell phone service and no WiFi in the area because of the of the Green Bank Observatory quite zone. The road into the campground is very narrow with few places for cars to pass, however there is very little traffic on Gum road. When leaving, the owner led us out to the main road in his car to avoid any problems with oncoming traffic.
