For Walupt Lake Campground: Attention: Do not use the directions in Allstays if towing a trailer or driving a large rv. Use the directions on the Forest Service web site. Taking FD21 from Packwood is steep, washboarded, potholed, and dusty. The way in from Randel is mostly paved and the dirt section is in good shape. (About 8 miles of dirt)
The campground is older but is in a nice location. The water system was only working on a limited basis during our stay. Bring extra water as a backup. The outhouse receives a lot of use since it is shared with the large numbers of day use visitors.
Walupt Lake is beautiful with some fine hiking available. The beach can get crowded, but the swimming is refreshing!
