For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: I would say all in all this would be a nice RV park. However it was very cold and I stayed inside my camper most of the time. The worst thing about this park is that the camp host lets people drive through checking out the facility. There is probably over 100 cars a day that drive-through just looking for spots. This kicks up a lot of dust and gravel, people drive too fast, there are children playing about and could be hit. There is a sign when you drive-in says this campsite is full still people are allowed to drive through.

For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: This is all about the beach - miles of sand and towering driftwood. You can walk for miles. The campground is pretty basic - a long loop with picnic tables and fire rings nestled between the beach and the cliff. Only amenity is a building with flush toilets. I checked in on a Sunday afternoon in late June and was able to find a perfectly adequate spot in the center row. Don’t look at your neighbors, look at the sea and sky!

For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: Stayed here for 14 days Jun-Jul of 2019. We also stayed here 5 days in July 2018.
It can get packed, but we always come in on a Tuesday and most weekdays it gets empty around noon. This last time we found several ocean side spots open, including 37. You want 37. We are 60ft hitched (1-ton dually and 34" trailer w/ bike rack) and we had room to spare with a van on one side and a class A on the other.
I did have to level like never before, using almost every block I had, so be prepared. Sometimes there's a price for the view. A different rig or placement might not have needed it. The first time we had 16 on the backside and loved it. I guess what I'm saying is that there is room for all sorts of rigs, even though the website just says "some available for up to 35 ft". Contrast this to the Kalaloch campground, which says the same thing but if you can find one that you can squeeze 35' into you will be parking your tow vehicle elsewhere.
We absolutely love this place! You have to be ready to boondock but it's worth it if you like the ocean and the Olympic National Park area. You are close to Lake Quinault, the Hoh rain forest and all the southern Olympic NP beaches. It is quiet and dark at night...the phosphorescent waves are worth staying up for! Lots of people fishing, clamming and having fun in the surf. When we saw rangers they were always extremely polite. The camp hosts are fantastic and friendly, routinely patrolling the area and picking up any stray trash.
Cell service here is phenomenal, especially given the remoteness. I measured 22Mb down on both Verizon and AT&T LTE. I had no problem working remotely here during my stay.
They have trash dumpsters and a bathroom. There are several places close by that can help you with other resources:
- Kalaloch Lodge, 2 miles north (propane, convenience store, restaurant, bar, USPS drop box at front desk, trash, recycling, firewood)
- Kalaloch Campground, 3 miles north (dump, potable water, trash)
- Queets trading post, 2 miles south (dump, propane, diesel, ATM, convenience store, trash)
- Quinault is 26 miles east. As well as being beautiful in it's own right, there are a few restaurants, and a mercantile. The Rain Forest Resort has a convenience store w/ showers and a laundry that is open to the public, as well as a post office. (Warning: things take about 3 more days to get here than to Forks)
- Forks is about 40 miles north, but has almost everything at various places (laundry, firewood, propane, hardware, potable water, dump, restaurants, diesel, USPS)
Someone from Kalaloch lodge drives around daily selling firewood for $7/bundle. Directly from the lodge it's $7.09+tax. It's $4.99+tax at Forks Outfitters, and in between there are many people selling it for $5/bundle in their front yards

For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: We've camped here three times in August 2012, 13 and 14. No reservations, but we've always been lucky in getting a good spot. No utilities save for restroom with flush toilets. Can be crowded with little separation between sites, yet amazingly clean and natural. Miles of awesome deserted beach with huge piles of massive driftwood logs. Our favorite campground in ONP.

For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: Checked in a 7 pm, mid June, mid week and there were still plenty of spots. This camp is above the beach in a gravel lot and I couldn't even tell you about the campground itself because we were too busy feeling the ocean air on our skin, watching the waves crash and feeling grateful to be there. This feels like what camping was like along the California coast 50 years ago. Barely any people. A huge, private beach that you have to climb over driftwood piles to get too. Banana slugs, shrimp and crabs on the beach. This camp is my all time favorite!!!

For South Beach Campground - Olympic National Park: Everything is redeemed by the gorgeous view of the Pacific! Holy crap it's great! But no water, no hookups and you may feel all cramped together in a gravel parking lot. Plus, it's always full and they don't take reservations so getting in is tough. However, I got here right after the 11:00 AM checkout time and found several sites open, even though the sign said, "Campground Full." The park ranger was here sorting through the reservation board and suggested I find an unoccupied spot and come back to see if no longer be had reserved it yet. I got lucky!
