For Grindstone Recreation Area: We have stayed here several times. Cottontail loop. Everything was fine, but the place could use a little cleaning up. Lots of trees down and piled up. The host ran around with a dog off his leash which is a little hypocritical since I have to have mine on a leash. I feel all or nothing. No activities planned for the campers. All in all, this is a great campground. The weather is 15 degrees cooler than in town 30 minutes away. 90 in town and we had a campfire. Pretty cool.

For Grindstone Recreation Area: Great campground! Definitely off the beaten path but if that's what you are looking for, this is the place. There is no cell service in this area but the campground offers electric and water hookups. There is one site you can get that has sewer hookup as well but it can't be reserved. Site 21 was a host site that isn't used anymore and is right by the entrance in the Opossum Loop. Nice place to get away.

For Grindstone Recreation Area: I was dismayed by the previous review. I have been to this campground on numerous occasions. It is one of my favorites. Beautiful setting in a beautiful region. My experience with the staff has always been very positive. It is a remote campground, but isn't that one of the reasons we go camping???? The campground has multiple hosts, very accommodating. I have been hesitant to write my different opinion, as compared to the one and only other review. Selfishly, I was OK with not letting the "secret" out of what a great place this is!

For Grindstone Recreation Area: I recently had the displeasure of camping at Grindstone Campground. The some of the Cradle of Forestry staff now in charge of the campground are rude, condescending and treat you like you're an inconvenience to them. I also talked to other campers there and they felt the same way. We had to leave for a family issue and my wife also forgot some of her medications, and we returned later that night to find the gate locked and we couldn't get in. We knocked on the host's camper and after 20 minutes someone finally came to the door and rudely told us that the gate wouldnt be unlocked for anyone! My wife is disabled and has a heart condition and she was just in the hospital last month. It was too late to return home so my disabled wife and I had to walk all the way to our campsite about a mile away and leave our vehicle unattended along the side of the road. I have a major concern being locked out of a place I paid to stay at, and more specifically, locked inside that place with no way out in case of an emergency. The campground is in a remote area so there's no cell phone service and if there was an emergency, no one could help you. I don't understand how you can be legally locked inside a place with no other exit and no one available to unlock the gate. Also while camping this last time, the white Cradle of Forestry truck was observed several times, speeding through the campground with kids playing nearby. I observed it twice myself and I also heard several other campers complain and they were worried about it endangering their kids. How can they expect to enforce the campground rules when they set a bad example?
