For Adolph Thomae Jr County Park: We only stayed 2 nights but this is a very nice park, Our site was right along the water way site C-06 and we loved it. The site was level with 30 and 50 amp hook up and a sewage hook up. We saw Dolphins in the channel both days and large tug and barges go by. We loved this place. There is a nice bath house but we did not use it as we are self contained

For Adolph Thomae Jr County Park: We stayed one month. The park is ok but not well maintained RV sites. It’s about fourth five minutes from South Padre Island.

For Adolph Thomae Jr County Park: This is a nice county park situated along the Arroyo Colorado waterway. We visited in Feb. 2018, and there were only a few campers during the weekday but the park was packed on the weekend. The best RV sites were 27-34, which are right along the waterway and farther from the weekend chaos. Lots of boaters put in here at the park, and there are two lighted fishing piers. The fishing was slow when we were there, but reputedly can be quite good, and you can fish right from your campsite. Cost is $30/night, but that's for full hookup including sewer. If you're into a longer stay, their monthly rate is $450 plus your actual electrical usage (it's metered). Staff were great, and it was fun seeing huge barges coming up the waterway. No issues with security, as they have a couple of gates to regulate entry and exit. There are not many options for camping in this area, and I think this is one of the best locations, especially if you're into fishing and/or birding.

For Adolph Thomae Jr County Park: My wife and I spent 5 nights at Adolphe Thomae in April 2017. The setting is nice, and there aren't many public campground options in the lower Rio Grand valley. The management were pleasant and helpful, especially Omar. At $15 for a primitive and $30 for an RV site, the price is a little steep. By comparison, we stayed at many TX state parks and had hookups and much nicer facilities for about $20/night. We spent 3 nights in a primitive campsite, which meant we were essentially paying $15/night for a parking space and the use of the barely adequate bathhouse. For Friday and Saturday nights, we opted to spring for an RV site with hookups, mostly to have a little buffer between us and our neighbors. Friday night was barely tolerable. The RV sites are signed indicating tents aren't allowed, but there were three tents on the site next to us. Similarly, the two-car limit per site was ignored throughout the park. One of our neighbor's several cars was actually parked on our site. We chose the site because it appeared to have a nice wide buffer between ours and the next, but our neighbors used the entire buffer for two tents and a car. The park was a night-long fiesta with music, spotlights and lots of people. Saturday night was much more tolerable.
The park is used mostly for fishing on the Arroyo, with two lighted piers. Most people were respectful and many were quite friendly. The two bathhouses had two stalls each on the women's side and one stall and one urinal on the men's. They were shared by day-use and overnight guests. They were generally pretty filthy, mostly from overuse. One bathhouse had two men's and two women's showers which were only available to campers (combination locks) and were much cleaner. I'd recommend the park if you're looking for a campground in the area, but not on a Friday.
