For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Stayed 5 nights at site F004 around July 4 2024. Great site. Creek in the back of the site. F004 was in the generator/RV loop. Campground was very active and all sites were occupied. Loop is heavily wooded with lots of shade. Could not use the Starlink, due to the tree cover. Zero att and Verizon coverage. Some cell coverage at the visitor center to the south, keep going a couple more miles to the town of Cherokee for full coverage. Would stay again.

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Camped two nights Wed-Thur April 12-13, 2023 with reservations a few days before and on two different sites; park was busy. Sites are crammed in tight together, but facilities are clean. No hook ups or showers. Good hiking trails and fishing opportunities on the creek. Half an hour drive to Clingmans Dome, the high point and the Appalacian Trail for superb hiking.

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Nice park with lots of hiking in area - sites are semi level - no internet (att) short sites so check your length of sites when making reservations -we will be back

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Beautiful spot. Exactly what you’d expect from a national park campground. Just remember to prepare yourself for no showers, no hookups, and no cell signal

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Our first experience in a no-hookup national park campground with no cellphone reception. Stayed in Loop F where generators were allowed (although we used sparingly since it is a peaceful spot). Overall our 40’ motorhome can handle off-grid for 2-3 days (we were there for 2 nights) but it needs to be worth the hassle. In this case I’d say that the campsite is within a couple of miles of the park entrance and there are plenty of full-hookup commercial campsites within an additional 10 mins drive of the major trailheads that you’ll probably be enjoying if you stay at Smokemont. The point is, the site doesn’t get you more access compared to staying outside the park where you will have hookups and cellphone reception, but on the other hand it’s a unique spot.

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Awesome National Park Campground. Stayed in the RV only loop. Most sites are shaded so solar will be difficult for most sites but there are a few that are more open. Close to Cherokee NC and if you like small mountain towns this one is neat. The East side of Great Smokey Mountains NP is far far far less crowded that the west side. We actually came from the west side so we took the long way around driving I-40 then returned by pulling over Newfound Gap. About a 3,000 ft change up and down but took our time and kept it in 2nd gear the whole way down. The Deep Creek area is also a must to visit. Several waterfalls, tubing in the creek, and another neat mountain town.

For Smokemont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: This is a first come first serve campground in the off season. We were there mid week in early May and had no problem getting a site. Only the front A, B and C loops were open. The area was gorgeous. The bathrooms were relatively clean. There are no hookups and no showers though.
