For South Beach State Park: This is an excellent park. We stayed in a 26 foot motorhome. The sites are level and spacious. The restrooms and showers are excellent. The entire facility is very well organized.Sites and roadways are all paved. We paid $31 per night for water and electric hook up. Campground provides beach access. We had two bars of AT&T and two bars of Verizon cell phone service. We would certainly stay here again.

For South Beach State Park: Sites are paved and pretty level. But they are close together and larger rigs have trouble navigating the narrow roads. Bathrooms are ok. Foghorn can be an issue for those bothered by the sound. Campground was completely full when we stayed. Lots of kids playing and some music event at one of the yurts but at 10, all became quiet. This was just a place to stay on the way south, so we did not stay long enough to go to the beach. This time of year, there are mosquitoes.

For South Beach State Park: April 2021: I’m adding some information beyond my previous review (2019). I’ve stopped in to use the dump station at this park several times in the past two years. Every time I’ve noticed that the access to the dump station is confusing to a lot of people, but there are no signs posted that help the situation. The problem is that the dump station is mostly used by campground customers as they are leaving the campground on their way to somewhere else. That creates a big demand for the single waste dump inlet. The dump access road is very short, so vehicles waiting to use the dump have to park in a line along the campground exit road. There is a dedicated lane along the exit road for those waiting to use the dump, and several signs on the way OUT of the campground that direct those wanting to dump to wait their turn in that dedicated lane. BUT: If you drive into the park from the highway, there’s absolutely no sign anywhere that tells you that you need to get in that dedicated lane to wait your turn to use the dump station. The line of waiting rigs isn’t obvious to someone arriving at the dump station either, because it’s quite a distance away. So people routinely drive from the highway right into the short access road to the waste inlet, cutting ahead of the usually long line of campers that have been waiting patiently for their turn. It’s totally not obvious that you would need to drive completely past the dump station access road, continue past the campground entrance booth, do a u-turn right in the middle of the main campground entrance/exit road, go back out a couple hundred feet towards the dump station and get into what looks like a line of vehicles parked in a line for some as yet unknown to you reason, all in order to use the dump. After a couple years of watching the routine chaos this can create you might think the State Parks would put up a sign or two explaining to those ENTERING the park and approaching the dump station how the traffic system is supposed to work. But no. People continue to unknowingly cut the line, causing unintended frustration and confusion.

For South Beach State Park: It’s alright. It’s got 30amp hook up only at our site anyways. Site B19. Allows campfires and the pits are clean as I’ve ever seen them. 1/4 mile paved road to the beach. Bout 1/2 to 3/4 mile trip to south jetty. The convenience store in the campground was closed (covid 2020). Quiet hours 10-7. Service sucks. You Have to go to the beach to use phone. Not much in bike trails for kids to explore. They got bundles of wood for sale (5pm-8pm)for $5. They’re disc golf course is pretty good. 18 holes with 3 layouts to choose from. The course gives this rating a boost from average 3stars to 4 stars. Haven’t dealt with dumping station yet. Heard it’s terrible on other reviews. So we will see tomorrow. #BLM

For South Beach State Park: Based on several visits between 2015 and 2019, Oregon Parks has invested some resources into improving this park. A lot of deferred maintenance to the facilities has finally been done. After many years of not working, a separate potable freshwater spigot at the entrance to the RV Dump has recently been repaired and put back into service. Other reviewers have complained there’s only one dump station for the entire campground. This is not unusual for Oregon State Parks (or for a lot of other government owned and operated campgrounds across the US, in my experience. One reason is that Oregon State Parks only ask for a donation (not a required fee) at their dump stations, and that only sporadically. “You get what you pay for” comes to mind. This wouldn’t be my first choice for a State Park campground on the Oregon coast, but it’s a very workable alternative to Beverly Beach State Park just to the North several miles (which isn’t perfect either). Both of those parks offer a lot of value simply because of their locations, with easy access to beautiful beaches and proximity to nearby shopping centers.

For South Beach State Park: Deducted 1 star because only 1 dump station for 228 sites - HUGE line-up when leaving. Otherwise camp was clean, well laid out and we had no issues with bugs. Easy check-in, friendly folks. If they added another couple of dumps, this would be a 5 star campground.

For South Beach State Park: I was passing through in July and only stayed one night. From what I could see there were two sections, paved for the RV’s and gravel for the tent. The park has a nice clean look about it and it had nice trails for walking on. The tent area did have a lot of mosquitoes but oh well. If I stayed again I would want to be in the paved area.
