For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: We passed through Reno on our way back from a long trip and stayed at Boomtown KOA on August 6-7 in pull-thru, FHU site D106. Check-in was easy, the front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. At check-in the staff gave us free drink coupons for the adults and free fun center coupons for the kids at Boomtown.
The interior roads are nice and wide. The site was asphalt with a grass area that had a picnic table on it. The site was dramatically not level for being asphalt. Bring a lot of levelers.
The cable was good and WiFi was good enough to stream movies. AT&T cell service was good. The bathrooms/ showers are very clean, modern and spacious. The hours are limited and the 24 hour restrooms STILL aren’t open.
The staff failed to tell us that the lawn is watered at night. We returned from dinner on a Saturday night to find our camp chairs soaked from the sprinkler system and a swamp of water where the grass was. It’s pretty messed up that the KOA would water the campsite grass on the busiest evening of the weekend without warning anyone to move their stuff.
We stayed at Boomtown KOA since there were no other quality FHU sites available at other RV parks in the area. In a pinch, we would stay here again.

For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: Checked in and was told our spot was a little noisy, sorry. And the bathrooms were closed overnight, sorry. And the wifi was very wonkie today, sorry. (Wifi didn’t work at all). Pool and laundry were closed until tomorrow. The sewer dump at our site was 6†above grade, no good for a van camper. I should have just parked out in the casino parking lot and saved the $59.

For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: 2 night stay. Due to Covid and I guess less staff, the bathrooms are closed at 7pm, so your RV must be self contained. The bathrooms are very clean and very nice, There are trees giving shade in some of the sites. There’s a casino with restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The pool was lovely. Every staff member was kind and helpful. Charlene was extra kind in moving us to a site with a little more shade, closer to the bathroom and office. Thank you Charlene. We stayed here on our way to Oregon, this was a 2 day stop over. Lake Tahoe is 70 miles south.

For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: My husband like to go here because he like to sit and watch the trains go by the Truckee River. That’s the only draw. The place is poorly taken care of, things that are broken don’t get fixed for a long time, we have requested a specific site twice and got in there to find out that it was given away. The only reason we go there is to stop and watch the trains and this is the best site to do it from. It’s not like we’re just passing through. It’s a destination for a couple of days just to get away. For the first couple of years, we had a pop-up with no bathroom, so we were 100% dependent upon the bathrooms in the facility. Unfortunately, all but one bathroom are inside the office, so when it’s closed, they are inaccessible. And that remaining bathroom that’s open 24 hours has a shower in it. So if you need to go to the bathroom and there’s someone in there taking a long shower, you’ve got a problem. I talked to a new manager who said that they were working on the problems, but that was about 3-4 years ago and nothing’s changed. We tried to use the swimming pool once and it was filthy and disgusting. And the space we liked used to have grass, but they shut off the water and now it’s all loose dirt. Very unpleasant. And they have long-term residents scattered about the park. We were put in a space ones that had wind chimes all over it. They were very cute, but who can sleep with wind wind chimes banging around in the middle of the night. They belong to the camper in the next space but she had taken over the space that we were given. So we tore them down with the help of the security guard. He damaged several of them and I felt really bad for her. And next to the space that we do like, a long-term or moved in and took over three spaces with garbage. Just spread out. It’s felt like Dogpatch back there. We’re done with it! There are a couple of nice people in the office, especially the woman who is there in the afternoon to check in time with a shoulderlength gray page boy, and The woman who was there in the daytime who used to live in Willits, where we used to live. They were the reason for the second star. Otherwise this is a one star place.

For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: We’ve stayed here before. Since we have a dog, we like to stay near the dog walk. In my reservations, I specifically put on the comments we wanted to be near the dog walk. When I arrived, were were assigned to be on the other side of the park. So I had to pay extra for a pull through (instead of a back in one) to be 3 rows away. Come to find out, spots K33 & K34 (which the staff told me that row is now available), stayed open during our entire stay. The grass in most other spots are very minimal. So I may stay here again, but I will think twice before doing so and may go up to Gold Ranch RV park instead.

For KOA Journey Reno Boomtown: 1st time RV’er here. I don’t have too many complaints on this location. However, the water spicket leaked a little bit, but nothing major. The park seemed clean overall, and yes, there were some kids running around. But wouldn’t that be normal for a family friendly RV park? The location of the campground is quite aways from the casino itself if you were wanting to walk it. About 1/2 mile or so from KOA to the casino, and all uphill. They do have a shuttle van, but you have to go up to the office to catch it. The other gripe I have is that the WiFi is horrible! I have very strong signal from the WiFi, but there is hardly any data speed coming from it. I ran a Speedtest to find out that the download speed is 1.6mbps and speedtest.com couldn’t even detect an upload speed. This is very sad.
