For Whispering Elms Campground: We'd suggest either spring or fall so you could take advantage of one of four Federal campgrounds surrounded by great hiking! When we arrived at Whispering Elms our initial feeling was to leave but really not many options if you want some hookups. Old for isn't an issue but clean restrooms, kept sites, a usable picnic table and a covered dumpster should be to much to ask. As for the motel, laundry didn't hear many good comments not to mention no grassy areas for you tent campers. With a some effort you could be sitting on a gold mine!

For Whispering Elms Campground: Dirt, rock parking lot, limited shade, no grass for tents. Tons of dust, dirt and debris laying around. No fire outs in sites. No particularly level. Some pull thrus.
Bathrooms/showers were very dirty and filled with bugs. Laundry facility had only one working dryer (of 3).
Motel is the same parking lot as the RV sites, it sits among them.
The only thing going for this location is that it is across the street from Great Basin NP visitor center and 5 miles from pro entrance (the closest by far).
Baker offers almost no services.

For Whispering Elms Campground: This is a pretty basic campground in terms of offering many bells and whistles (Baker is pretty sleepy in general) but it has laundry facilities, a bar where locals hang (great for getting travel advice,) super fast wifi, really clean drinkable water, and is run by great people. They went out of their way to get us everything we could need and we're happy to do so. Great stay.

For Whispering Elms Campground: Nice little place. Owners were very accommodating as we checked in late. All of the restaurants in the town (3-4) were boarded up so glad we had food in the fridge :)

AK travelers
For Whispering Elms Campground: Nice off the beaten path park. Gravel sites. Most sites have nice shade. Manager was very friendly. Water pressure great. Conveniently located next to Great Basin NP. Several 50 amp spots. A lot of 30 amp sites. We are a big rig and were able to get into the 50 amp pull thru without to much trouble. The wifi was the best we have had in a long time at an RV park. We did not use the shower or laundry. We did go uptown to eat dinner. A few basic choices. We were here in late September. It was 85 degrees on the valley floor. 65 degrees at the trailhead in the NP just 14 miles away.

Pmount
For Whispering Elms Campground: Open for business. Told there were new managers. We did not stay there, but looked to be in good shape. Good signage saying open 24/7. Office opens at 4, otherwise go to mgrs RV

Sara
For Whispering Elms Campground: On night of 30 March 2012 a for sale sign was posted and place appeared to be closed. No one answered door at building on site. I had to climb over a broken down pickup with parts scattered around to get to door with light on and after no answer I turned around in empty RV parking area. I used Border Inn RV a few minutes north east.
