For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Stayed at site 19 on the river. Roomy and quiet. No hookups but freshwater available. $14 plus $5 daily park fee. Just an overnight for us. Winding road slowed to 35 mph which is a good speed. Falling rock warnings. I did not think it was steep entering. Nothing as bad as palo duro canyon. Took highway 3 south which was a bit tight for the first 2 miles but then was fine.

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Nice park, though not easy to get to from I-40. There is no need to get off of paved road to get to the park no matter where your phone map directs you to turn, so if you get directed down an unpaved county road, it’s time to regroup. Our campsite and a lot of the others was about 50 feet from the Pecos River. the River here was one of the few bodies of water we saw on our trip west that didn’t appear to be in some level of drought conditions. We were told the fish population had been affected by the fires earlier this year (ash in the water I assume), so that may not recover for awhile. Very nice picnic shelters for most, if not all, of the campsites. Shower/bathroom facilities were good. Campsite pads were gravel and were nice and level. We were just overnighting, but I’d like to go back and hike the trails here. Little to no AT&T reception. We visited on a Wednesday in September.

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Should’ve picked a River Front site..the sound of the river on the rocks is so relaxing. Crazy drive in from I-40. 1 bar AT&T, 2 Bars Verizon. Can hardly wait to hike the trails today with the dogs…they appeared to be too much foe Crocs yesterday 😅

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Very pretty little park down in a canyon with a pretty stream running through it. Camp host is a really nice guy and keeps the park very clean. No AT&T cell service and no tv reception. The road in from I-40 is paved but very steep probably a 20% grade the last mile. I have a 32 foot Class C pulling a Jeep I made it but wouldn't recommend it. The road in from I-25 has curves but a very pleasant drive through some really small but interesting towns. It was a breeze to pull out from that direction.

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Very nice out of the way state park. Nice hiking trail and stream. Twisting road to get to, but nice for a day stop. Stop at the general store in town for good burritos!

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: Coming from the north, the roads are so windy and narrow that it makes for very slow going (30 mph). Park is about 15+ miles from the north side. The park was very remote, and we chose not to stay. Upon leaving, we headed south. After a short bit of a very narrow, winding roadway we were relieved to find a relatively straight stretch (about 20 miles). Park was shady enough, but roads to and from are definitely subpar and my rating reflects this.

For El Cerro - Villanueva State Park: This park is phenomenal. The park staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area as well as the history of the people living in the area.
