Two For the Road
For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: We stayed here for one night, although we were supposed to stay her for the whole week.
We have developed a sort of checklist of things to consider at RV Parks.
Bathrooms are first, and in this case the bathrooms were OK. Not outstanding, just ok. Plenty of hot water, clean, and private showers were all pluses. Nothing negative really to say, just could use some remodeling and updating.
Next up is staff, and in this case the staff was excellent. That contributed to the park getting 4 stars, not just 3.
Next up is laundry, and in this case it was ridiculous. $2.50 a load to wash, but at least the dryer worked great and dried with only about $1.00.
Finally, we had to leave after one night dues to the petro-chemical/Sulplhur smell that made us both a little sick. When we arrived there was no smell, but when we opened the door that night to take the puppies out, it was downright horrible. The smell persisted all through the night, and into the next day, and Like said it made us both a little sick, so we had to leave the park. The staff was excellent, and actually refunded us our money for the rest of the stay. This fact alone allowed us to rate them 4-stars.
Overall this park is not bad, about what you expect from a KOA. The smell drove us away, but other people there seemed to not mind, and the owner stated that it was not harmful, it came because of the refinery a little north when the wind was right, and that most times it doesn't really bother people. The ultimate recommendation is would we stay there again, and the answer is yes, cautiously depending on if that smell was there or not.

For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: We gave this place two stars, because it was by far the worst value for the money of any place we have stayed.
Bathrooms were cold, outdated and sufficient.
Fresh water was awful tasting, and seems to possibly be polluted by the oil and gas drilling nearby.
While not the fault of the RV park, the entire area wreaked of propane or natural gas. As we were driving up to the park, our propane warning light actually went on. We thought maybe it was a leak in our system, but our friends a mile behind us in a van could smell it as well. This area seems like its getting wrecked by oil and gas. I would probably stay far out of the city.
Also as an FYI, the caves are about an hour drive away from the KOA, so it wasn’t centrally located.
We were here in the winter, so it’s probably a lot nice in the summer. All the staff we interacted with were very friendly, and the grounds were well maintained. For $60, your money would be better spent elsewhere in my opinion.

For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: We arrived for one night stay, on our way home to Texas. The only advice I would give KOA is to fix their sign on the 285 highway. I nearly blew past the entrance. Thank goodness for GPS, and my husband’s great eyesight.
The pull throughs are spacious and super easy to pull into without having to make little adjustments for the perfectionist in some of us. The sites are gravel and level, with easy hook ups.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and they provided an escort to our site, so if there were any issues at all they could be addressed immediately and on site. I really liked that added service.
For added entertainment for your kids and dogs, there are little bunnies everywhere.
They are a bit pricey, but the campgrounds are very well kept and clean. Worth the little extra.
Happy camping!

For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: We were there 10 days in March. Nice spacious Park. Lots of space between sites, picnic tables, and they also have buddy sites, in the event you're travelling with someone else. The roads and pads are all gravel, although the rest of the site is grass. (We were here in Marxg, so the grass was dead). It is almost a half hour to town and 45 minutes to the Caverns, but that wasn't a problem for us. The park was kept up nicely. We had fri new who stayed in a cabin, and they were very happy with it.

For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: Very friendly people working here. Laundry room was very clean but the cost for the washing machines was too much. This park is out in the middle of no where. Many permanent rvs (oil/gas workers) here which is fine with me but they do go to work early and they all drive big trucks so come 330am-6am expect to hear diesel trucks driving by. Park itself is dirt/gravel. Lots of dust in the air.

For KOA Holiday Carlsbad: I gave 5 stars and it is a nice , clean park. I will tell you it is 19 miles from Carlsbad and 46 miles from Carlsbad caverns. Also be on the look out for some tar that will stick to your shoes. It’s not a lot but look out. The laundry is 250 to wash, .25 for 5 minutes to dry. Too much.
