Laurel
For Dead Colt Creek Rec Area: Small, quiet, comfortable campground located on the North Dakota plains. On one side, corn and soybean fields, on the other dry rolling hills. There are two groups of sites, one at the top of the hill along the winding entrance road, the other at the bottom along the lake. The ones at the top are nicely spaced and have good views. All are very level. No difficulties getting into them. Down at the bottom are many more sites, under trees. Some are rented for the summer season. There also is a large area on the lake for tent camping. With the exception of the tent sites, no stakes are allowed due to underground water and electric lines. Remember this if you camp with a small trailer and a large day tent. The operator is a consortium of local government and nonprofit institutions. It uses an unfamiliar campground reservation system that works well. Well kept restrooms and showers.
