For Zippel Bay State Park: Our cats voted this their favorite campground! Unbelievably quiet, with lots of birds and ground squirrels to chase. First week of August and we were the only campers in Ridge Loop. We had been concerned about the water situation - but no worries. Excellent dump station at entrance to the campground with fresh water available to fill your rig before heading to your campsite. If you are arriving without reservations, we would suggest leaving your trailer at the entrance and using your tow vehicle or “toad” to scope out the sites. As others have said, roads are narrow and turns are tight. Ridge and Birch have the largest sites, but are located furthest from the lake (.8 miles). We used Google Earth to view the sites and chose Ridge #35 to fulfill our solar needs. Poor Verizon signal, but had 3 bars on our ATT MiFi.

Red Gypsy

For Zippel Bay State Park: Here in mid September, only one other camper. Stayed in Birch loop, narrow roads with lots of trees. Ez with small trailer, wouldn’t bring in big class A or fifth wheel. Turns are tight. Big level sites, clean good vault toilets. Signage is lacking, get a map at entry station. Great base camp for walleye fishing charters. Wouldn’t bring a boat back into Birch loop. Not much around except farmland and fishing.

Erika

For Zippel Bay State Park: This is one of our new, favorite places in Minnesota. The beach is truly remarkable—soft sand that extends endlessly up and down the shoreline. Great swimming for the kids. The water was so shallow, they could walk probably 100 yards into the water and still touch. Our campsite (#41 at Ridge) was spacious and quiet, nestled in the birch forest. Hardly anyone was in the campground. There are no electric hookups and the campground toilet is a vault. But there were basic showers to use next to the dump station.

For Zippel Bay State Park: Great campground! Very big sites generously spaced from each other. Remote, drove a mile from office to campground circle (Ridge). It’s just short of a mile walk to lake, bring a bike or drive if you don’t want to walk. Very clean well maintained site. No power but has a dump station with water.

Get Living Adventure

For Zippel Bay State Park: Excellent Park Rangers were very helpful. This is a remote campground with no amenities but that should not keep you from visiting. The beaches along Zippel Bay are beautiful and shallow enough for our kids to enjoy swimming. It is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at with extremely large, private, LEVEL and accommodating sites. The middle of July there were only three sites occupied in Ridge Loop. The vault toilets leave a lot to be desired but if you are self-contained this will be no issue at all. The showers while simple, we're very clean and easy to use. Lots of great wild berry picking (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)!!

Word is Angler Loop may be getting electricity which will make this park even more appealing. There should be no issue for large rigs to navigate this park. Lady Slipper Loop may be tight but plenty of deep & level sites. To play it safe Ridge Loop was very accommodating. We are in a 33ft Class A Motorhome.
AT&T had no service but Verizon with our booster had no issues.
