For Jo-mary Lake Campground: This is absolutely an idyllic setting. The lake and the view of Katahdin from the waterfront sites and are stunning! The beach is also one of the best lake beaches in the state. The lake is beautiful, and if you know what you are doing, the fishing can be pretty good. I love this setting! The setting, however, is marred by a few factors that are important to me. First, the facilities, in my opinion, are filthy. We were there for a week, and our campsite was next to a porta-potty. It was not cleaned during the week we were there, and we smelled it from our campsite. The showers were moldy and disgusting, and we simply would not use them. Also, there are no enforced rules with regard to generators. People ran loud household generators right up until quiet time at 10 p.m. It completely ruined the beautiful setting. Finally, this campground is a haven for loud, obnoxious people, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The effect of this will vary depending on where your campsite is. Loud music, yelling screaming, and children running rampant through your campsite is the order of the day. If you want peace and quiet with clean, well maintained facilities, this is NOT the place for you. If the above is less important than the beautiful setting, then by all means, give this place a try.
