For Paynetown SRA Monroe Lake: We stayed at Paynetown Campground in late June for 4 nights in a 27 ft TT. As many of the campsites were flooded or underwater due to the excessive rainfall this spring it’s somewhat difficult to give an impartial review. We stayed in the farthest loop sites 160 and 162. Not anywhere near level, having to put blocks under our steps to access the camper door. Most sites along that area are not level. The flat sites were just plain flooded. This loop was also very crowded and sites close. Not the worst I’ve seen but still close. Bathhouse was just across the street. It was relatively clean and the showers were hot with good pressure. Although they Could use a deep cleaning they were acceptable. There is a well stocked camp store at the marina where you can rent a pontoon boat or kayak. Highly recommend this. We did not swim due to the blue algae and massive flooding. Beaches were closed. There is a very nice playground in the campground. There is another loop that has many paved sites that offer both space and more privacy. Unfortunately for us they were not available either due to flooding or being booked. The loop we stayed in needs lots of work, refresh the gravel, level up a bit, post newer pics on the website. Lots to do in Bloomington, Recommend Lennies Restaurant (don’t let the location or facade turn you off), Also Big Woods Bloomington, Oliver Winery and Wylie House, take a stroll down the B-line trail and stop at Friendly Beast for Hard Cider (limited hours). I would consider staying here again, just not in that loop and not after a flood! Believe it or not mosquito’s were not a problem.

For Paynetown SRA Monroe Lake: Big campsites under lots of old growth shade. Lots of leaves and tree berries on the ground which could be a bit messy but a cool place to hide on a very hot day. Facilities could use a little talc.
