For Beall Woods State Park: A small, modest State Park style campground, with generous sized gravel sites on a lawn under shade trees. It’s in the middle of the park, not on the Wabash River. Vault toilets, water from a spigot. No electricity or showers. Pleasant and quiet, with several short, less than a mile, interesting old growth forest and bottomland trails nearby. Small, interesting nature center. Modest fishing lake. A pleasant place for a quiet weekend. Directions note: Follow the signs and Take IL SR 1 to a road called “900 North Blvd,†at Keensburg, 7 miles south of Mt. Vernon. GPS will take you over a very steep railroad embankment and onto narrow, winding, unpaved rural gravel roads.
