For Scott AFB FamCamp: This place was AWESOME! I rode in on a motorcycle with a tent. It’s self check in for tents at the bathhouse. There’s a box with paperwork and envelopes. $10 a night and you can set up anywhere around the lake that isn’t a pavilion area. I threw a hammock in a tree, met a great MP who helped with directions, when things flooded. All the facilities worked, and tent shade is plentiful. If you still do tents, this is a GREAT place to spend some time. You only need a base permit to fish here.

For Scott AFB FamCamp: A beautiful fam camp on lake (man made???). Sweet place to stay, grateful that widow of Navy veteran is permitted use of fam camps . Instructions failed to mention the left turn at first traffic light so we are wondering thru trying to find the way, a very nice AP volunteered to lead us to park, how great is that😊. The sites are a little close but nothing to fuss about. Thank you Scott AFB

For Scott AFB FamCamp: The directions we were emailed to the FamCamp fail to mention the left turn at the first traffic signal after entrance through the Siebert Gate onto Bucher St. This apparently turns into Golf Course Road, but has no sign. Also, the FamCamp is not indicated on the signpost at that intersection either, so we ended up driving through the base looking for our turn and exiting the AFB out the Belleville Gate at the end of Siebert Rd. before we realized we had missed our turn. Really pretty campground reminiscent of a national or state park campground. The recreation department will assign the campsite when reservations are made (by phone). Water and electric only at the sites. Some sites are pavement, some are gravel with varying amounts of shade. A large rig might find backing into the sites a little challenging, as the access road is a bit narrow and there are some hazards to negotiate. There are some pretty deep ruts in the grass from people trying to accomplish this. But we saw 2 pretty big fifth-wheels get into the sites next to us last night. Dump station, trash, laundry, showers are all available in the campground. Very quiet (other than the aircraft during the day), and dark at night. We had pretty good T-Mobile and Verizon cell signal (enough to stream videos).

For Scott AFB FamCamp: Another hidden gem! Down by the pretty golf course and the lake, lots of shade trees. Our spot wasn’t too unlevel (15). Park was quiet and well maintained.

For Scott AFB FamCamp: Stayed at the Scott AFB FamCamp for 7 nights in June. Main gate (Shiloh) is best to use when arriving; east to navigate serpentine. Back gate (Belleville) serpentine has been broadened in the past few years, so more experienced may be able to navigate. Primary entrance has moved from road adjacent to DISA on Pryor Dr to Golf Course Road. It is possible to take the old way, but that road is very rough while the newer entrance is well paved. Pros: Great location, near Golf Course, about 10 minutes to Exchange/Commissary. Very quiet in the evening, lake is a very nice. Close to rubber paved walking trail that loops entire base. Facilities have seen some touch ups and have been better maintained than our previous visits. The laundry and shower rooms have been cleaned up and lightning has been upgraded to make it less drab in the evening. Facilities have been painted, making it more inviting. Speed Queen washers/dryers are efficient. Although no camp host or full time staff, Outdoor Rec has placed a greater emphasis on this location versus previous years. They are quick to respond when maintenance issues arise, are relatively pleasant, and reservations can be made 30 days in advance. Cons: There seems to be a lot of “Musical Chairs” with the sites. Multiple people having to move to other sites. We stayed in Site 2 for 1 night and moved to 16 for the remainder of our stay. Camping experience at ODR may help alleviate this issue. The sites around the bend that divides the two sections of the campground are adjacent to a natural water runoff area. All the sites in this section are horridly unlevel, front to back, Sites 1-4 included. Once around the corner, the gravel sites level out. Paved area (upper number sites) is very tight, neighbors have space between the sites, but the road is narrow. A lot of rutting out off the side of paved areas due to this. Although the dump station is convenient, a line typically forms mid morning for those leaving. Those staying longer tend to dump late morning or afternoon. Single dump site for 20 some odd sites with many transients can lead to long waits. Although our stay was better than previous years (our 4th time here), unrealized potential continues to keep this FamCamp from being spectacular.

For Scott AFB FamCamp: What others have said. Also, there’s the usual jet noise, and a number of sites are too small/rough to use camping chairs or the picnic table to sit outside. The gravel sites generally are larger. A couple of the paved sites have a patio area. All look pretty level. Space 13 is essentially just a parking spot. No playground equipment but plenty of paved space to ride bikes or walk. Easy access to the lake. Would stay again, but will pick a roomier site.

Brenda

For Scott AFB FamCamp: Quiet small camp. Paved and gravel sites, water & electric hookups, each site had a metal picnic table, no Wi-Fi and dump station was easy to use. Clean bathrooms/showers and laundry room w/2 washers & dryers ($1 to wash & $1 to dry). $20 a night. We’d stay again if we pass through the area.
