For Fort Mountain State Park: We pulled a 35’ 5r and had no troubles driving from Dalton. The road through campground is narrow and in rough shape but no trouble driving through. Check electrical for issues, site 46 had some kind of issue that required camper to relocate.
The campground needs some updates camp host said roads were supposed to be redone in 2024 but got delayed. Mini golf course has new turf but had not yet been installed. Large structure next to swimming beach is condemned and there is some planning to tear down and replace.
Campsites have a lot of shade trees, lakeside sites are better spaces apart but creek side has more pull through sites. Some of the backin sites are barely long enough to accommodate a longer rig. Nice trail around the 17 acre lake but there are not a lot of fishing spots due to brush overgrowth. Pedal boat rentals appear old and need replaced. Platform tent sites are a bit of a hike in to get to.
Weak 1 bar lte for ATT phone, no WiFi. Good digital tv reception.

For Fort Mountain State Park: Have mixed feelings about this park, some which are out of the park’s control. Positives: the park is well maintained. Restrooms were spotless and always well supplied. The area and views are beautiful. There are many great trails, some of which are quite challenging. The campsites are mostly level and many had fresh clean gravel. The park rangers and hosts were especially friendly (more on that later). Negatives: some of the campsites are a little too close together for our liking and this is especially true on the Creekside campsites. Lakeside is the better of the two for spacing. The road around the Lakeside campsites would be challenging for long trailers and motorhomes. Be aware that getting to the park can be challenging. Coming from the Chatsworth side we have encountered heavy rain such that we could barely see. This last time the fog was so thick we almost missed the turn into the park. Visibility was so bad we barely made 10 mph up the mountain from Chatsworth. Heaven help you if you come in from the other side of the mountains. Rant: we were booked into site 13 in Creekside. I would not recommend this site as it is close to the road and the other side is a swampy mess. To make matters worse, our neighbors were having a party with five dogs none of which were on a leash as required. The park ranger allowed us to chose another site and even drove over to the new site to make sure we were satisfied. To continue my rant about dogs off the leash, my wife and I were walking one of the trails with our small dog. I noticed up ahead that a man had two very large dogs neither on a leash. I was able to get the man’s attention before his dogs saw our Boston Terrier. He quickly leashed up the dogs but he could barely contain the dogs from attacking our dog. I carry dog spray with me for just this type of situation but I shouldn’t have to if people would just follow the rules.
Stayed three nights, April 9th-12th, 2023. There are no full hook ups but there several areas you can dump grey water. There are two stations at the dump site which is nice but neither had a water hose.

For Fort Mountain State Park: Pro: Beautiful campground with large, level camping spots. Great hiking trails that are well marked and easy to follow.
Con: We tow a 42’ fifth wheel. The lakeside campground is not made for campers longer than 35’. The roads are narrow, winding, and in poor shape. Our stabilizer jacks drug the ground going over some of the hills and around the narrow turns. We had to remove them to exit the campground. Larger campers should use the creek side campground.
The Chatsworth side mountain road is shorter with fewer switchback turns than the Ellijay side.

For Fort Mountain State Park: A nice state park campground literally on a mountain. The sites were nicely spaced. The road up and around the area is windy, but fine. We had zero service at our site, but could get at least messages in other parts of the campground and on the trails. We hiked most of the trails in the park and they were fun. About an hour to Amicolola and 15 minutes to the nearest town. Having a small and inexpensive laundry was also a nice plus!

For Fort Mountain State Park: Great state park, well maintained sites and restrooms. No sewer, but had water/electric. Better be on your A game to drive through the park with your trailer. AT&T and Verizon very spotty.

For Fort Mountain State Park: We stayed 2 nights in a 35' class A with a toad. Level pull through. Well maintained campground located in north Georgia mountains. Road from Chatsworth was steep and winding, as are most roads in this area. Be sure to take the short hike up to the fire tower and ancient stone wall. Don't miss the nearby overlook deck with a panoramic 80 mile view.

For Fort Mountain State Park: One of our favorite sites in NW GA. All are level sites, they have water, 30/50 amp hook-ups and cable. Cell service is spotty, but a great excuse to cut the wire for a weekend. There are grey water dumps about every 4th site which makes it nice if you need to tote or ducket carry off your tank. Black tank dump station is very easy to access on your way out with 2 dump stations available with water and trash disposal. Only one slight negative, is the lake loop RV road is in need of paving. Just take your time to miss the pot holes. There is a 17 acre lake with walking and hiking trials. You can rent a canoe or bring your own. Great little lake to fish in and there is a beach area for the kiddos to play and swim in warm weather.
