For San Elijo State Beach: We stayed for a week in late February, 2020 in our 28' long trailer. Very few sites have hook-ups. Our site backed up to a cliff overlooking the beach. View was spectacular. Most sites are fairly good sized. Ours was very large. It would have easily accommodated two RV's. Showers were clean. Love the area it is located in - Encinitas. Several good restaurants in the area. Lot of surfers, which seems to help create a layer-back vibe.

For San Elijo State Beach: I have mixed feelings about this campground.we have a 30 foot TT and stayed for 7 nights in a non hook up site. Here are the pros: awesome proximity to ocean, you can walk along the beach just minutes from your site. It was quiet every night around 9pm, very respectful campers. Bathrooms and showers are clean, but showers you must pay for with tokens you get from the rangers, only costs about $1 for a 4 minute hot shower. There are restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Listening to the waves break at night was amazing. Price isn’t too terrible considering its ocean front property and for Southern California. Some sites are small while others are spacious, research before you book. Sunsets every evening!! Cons: ants! We had ant invasions everyday the entire stay. We did everything we could to keep them away and they still found a way in. The non hook up sites suck if you’re not used to dry camping, our battery died on the 4th day. The roads in the campground are very narrow and not rv friendly, don’t make a wrong turn or you’ll get stuck. It can be difficult to back into your site as there isn’t a ton of room to maneuver rv’s. There’s no left turn to get into the campground, you have to either find another route coming from the south or make a uturn somewhere. The train is right across the street so you can hear it in the evenings but it wasn’t terrible. It’s always packed, tons of ppl and kids everywhere and you have to book 6 months in advance or you’ll never get a spot.

For San Elijo State Beach: Surfers haven. Spaces close together but some privacy with vegetation between some sites. Noisy due to highway and trains nearby. You can walk across highway to restaurants and grocery store which is nice. Beach is down steep walkway. This is a good location if all you care about is proximity to the ocean.

No way

For San Elijo State Beach: I have driven across the USA east coast to west. This is by far the WORST CAMPGROUND AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE I have STAYED IN . I HAVE BEEn CAMPING FOR ALMOST THREE MONTHS. this campground is between the highway and the bluffs. If u r not on the bluff side u r screwed. The highway is loud, then add the Very noisy train blasting it's horn as it passes. The campground hosts are fenced in its 10:30pm, loud music and drunk underaged kids on both sides of me and the campground hosts Did not pass by at quiet time. I guess quiet time is volunteer. I paid for Four nights but will leave after one! This place sucks big time!!!!
