For Camp Roberts: This park admittedly is not for everyone. It works great for a pass through for a night. Full hookups. Nothing is walking distance, so you’ll need to tow or unhook to get to base amenities (minimal) or area sites. As a Guard base your at the mercy of training days closing off parts of the range, or base facilities not being open at all. We came Memorial Day weekend, drove to the nearby reservoirs and meh, so we stayed around post. With training ranges closed we had full access to drive paved roads calling into base ops to check in/out. Weather was also perfect cooling down at night. The base was pretty much shut down so no MWR to check in, or grocery/food options.
If nature is your thing though than Camp Roberts is awesome. It is dry grassland and scraggly oaks so note the habitat. We enjoy the bird watching and this is a great visit. Eagles nesting, owls, shrikes, hawks and swallows. Mammals didn’t disappoint either with elk, deer, coyotes, pigs, and gopher snake in the park. Rattlers were coming out we were told so be wary, especially with pets.
Pros: cost, wildlife, birds, friendly gate and RV park staff. Great as a base camp for the area.
Cons: Reservation and checkin hours off with holiday, and just getting ahold of someone was difficult. No external facilities.
Overall:this base is a gem if you know what you’re getting in to. Time of year, training days, and not having our car would have made this experience much different.

For Camp Roberts: Small campground in the middle of nowhere on Camp Roberts. All sites have full hookups. Drive thrus are OK on space , back ins are more spacious. Minimal tree shade. Gravel lots are fairly level. Is a watered picnic area nearby. Camp Roberts had a small PX with necessities . There is a free ice machine at “The Phoneix†rec center. Temps were in the 100’s during the day and 50’s at night. Quiet and no fires.

For Camp Roberts: Not fancy, bit can't beat ot for $15 a night. App is incorrect. There are 23 sites, 10 of them pull thru. Must be self contained.... no shower or restroom. Kathy is the office was super nice and helpful.

For Camp Roberts: Full hookups but it seems that retired people can only stay 2 weeks even when they have open spots. You have 18 spots that have permanently occupy, but if you are retired you can only stay 2weeks it don't make sense to me.

For Camp Roberts: No facilities here so you should be self contained as far as toilets go. Sites are level and you are out in the wide open space with no shade or wind protection.
