For Silver Strand State Beach: 5 Star Beach, 1 Star camp hosts and rangers. They own the place and make the rules, and they change often. They are very happy to tell you them on sign in (6 month reservation wait). We stay here 3 or 4 times per year becase of the beach. On one stay, we were told, no alcohol in camp this weekend because of the children. My wife asked if the children where paying our $65 a night.
Here's the secret, no one is in charge of the water north of the campsite. You can walk as far north as you want in the surf, just stay off the restricted 'land'.

For Silver Strand State Beach: Don't stay here unless you like staying in a packed parking lot. Gate closes at 7, so forget about exploring the area or going out to dinner.

For Silver Strand State Beach: The ocean is beautiful, the people running the place are very unfriendly. The ranger will flash his pickup headlights telling you it's time to leave and don't stay a minute more.

John
For Silver Strand State Beach: Expensive parking lot ($65.00). Adequate restrooms with token operated showers. But, what a view! Literally right on the Pacific Ocean beach. Easy 4 mile bike or drive to the del Coronado.

Sadly disappointed
For Silver Strand State Beach: We were thrilled to get a space right on the water until we got there. The spaces are so close our entry door almost touched the campers next door . Beautiful view but there was only one fire ring one the beach for our area which was taken by a large group. Personal fire rings are only allow in the lines of your space not on the beach and again the spaces are so close this can't happen. Then there is the generator rule, only allowed between 10 am and 8:00 pm. There are no tents allowed so everyone is there with motor homes. At 8:02pm I had a very rude camp host knock at my door and tell me to turn off my generator , it wasn't mine but the guy next door. We wll not be back
