For Lake Morena County Park: Lake Morena - San Diego County Park: June 25-29, 2023 We stayed for five days at Lake Moreno San Diego County Park in our 26 ft class C RV in site #18 with our two-and-a-half-year-old Standard Poodle, Scout. This is a lovely county park in the hills of lower San Diego County on the edge of the Cleveland National Forest. The Park Ranger told us that during weekends they are at 100% capacity but during our mid-week visit they were running about 20%. Temps ranged from mid 80’s in the day to low 50’s in the evening and all the days were bright and sunny. Winds kick up in the late afternoon, sometimes blowing 20+ knots. Time to roll the sun awning back in. There were lovely sunsets and absolutely gorgeous star filled nights. Overall, pretty gosh darn perfect weather!! Camp sites are shaded for the most part, which is always welcome, especially mid-day. Sites are clearly marked and easy to find but not particularly level so be sure to bring plenty of your favorite leveling gear along. Oddly, the full hook-up assembly of electrical, water and waste are all spaced right next to one another and typically located near to or right at the front of the camping site. Consequently, as you back you RV into the site it becomes a long distance from the holding tank exit ports to the waste dump port. You might consider bringing along a waste hose extension. Or, when the time comes, move your RV five or so feet forward. Phone comms were excellent with AT&T 5G network connection. There is no Wi-Fi connectivity, so we used Hotspot a few times. This county park is very near the Pacific Crest Trail so you can hike some it in this area. Signs are posted in many areas reminding us of the presence of rattlesnakes and bobcats as well. Park walking/hiking trails are nice activity, however we never spotted either of the above two mentioned critters and kept our poodle on a leash at all times. There are a couple of handicap sites and they are level and paved with full hook-ups. E-Bikes (Types 1 & 2) are allowed on some trails. It’s a good long distance from the campground to the lake so bring your hiking poles and water or bring your bike for a nice energizing ride on a hilly, up and down, paved road. Lake Morena is a very large park so having a bike along is a fun idea. Either way it’s an excellent adventure! While there, we took a hike each day, usually around the campground. One day we headed to the lake, but it is a long walk, so we stopped short of the lake. Maps show that there are a number of trails that can be accessed from the lake area.

For Lake Morena County Park: Agree with the previous poster about his description, except when we were there in June 2019, no problem with low branches with a 11'6" clearance. We enjoyed our week stay, using it as a base to explore the area. Be sure to visit the 'Malt Shop' in town for good food, supplies, etc.

For Lake Morena County Park: I’m going to try to give an objective review, because although we really hated this place it was for the very reasons others might love it. Description: More of a campground than an RV park, a mix of tents and RVs of all types. Hard-pack dirt spaces with choice of hookups. Reasonable size and spacing of spaces. We did not see the lake from anywhere in the campground. Positives: Very pleasant staff, quiet and nice clientele. Negatives: Water is safe for washing and bathing but do not drink. (With fully self-contained, this meant if we’d hooked up, we’d have contaminated our system.) Trees are overhanging the roadways. Our class A is only 11ft 6in, but we had no choice but to drag branches over roof in a number of places. Matters of taste: This is a destination campground, not a stop-over RV park. It’s 7 miles off of the Interstate over a decent but slightly narrow-and-curvy two-lane road. There is no cell service (Verizon: “No service”, although for a few moments we had one bar of 1x—we found service about two miles back toward the highway). Located in the mountains, in Cleveland NF. No trains, planes, or freeway noise.
