For Rest Stop: July 4, 2024: The large paved parking area just off the eastbound side of the highway isn’t so much a rest area as a historic interpretive site. The famous red old-fashioned tour buses based in Glacier National Park even visit this site. When we arrived it was busy in the early evening but was very quiet later that night. The unimproved open gravel area paralleling the westbound side of the highway is noisier because it is between the highway and the nearby railroad. If you want a quieter more private overnight spot, the nearby Forest Service campground is a good option.
