For Montana Creek State Recreation Site: We stayed across the street in the privately managed campground but because of the proximity to the fishing, were back and forth. The two are connected via a tunnel. I have to say, the restrooms on both sides, for vault toilets, were very clean. The campsites are large and we had electric. The grounds had just been hit with a major wind storms and were in the process of clearing up the mess. These were the winds that sparked the McKinley forest fires that were blazing less than a mile down the road. I would recommend the campground as a good location for fishing. More importantly, I recommend them for the compassion and refuge offered to all those effected by those fires as well as campers like us who were trapped there. They kept us informed and current of the changing road conditions, even at the peril of their own properties within the fire zone. And the fishing was pretty good, despite all.

DeeDee
For Montana Creek State Recreation Site: Full of locals fishing. Very noisy, on highway, planes, trains, and people running generators all night, drinking. A shame, so pretty there
Pit toilets, no water, no dump, no sewer. But near Talkeetna.
Our site stunk, someone used it for dead fish disposal.
We moved, and the circus pulled in next to us. 4 dogs in a wire pen, kids ( we like kids), 6 adults, rv, giant tent, 3 big trucks.
People came and went constantly.
We left, and we had paid $40.
Across the street is Montana private campground ( figure that one out), little more money, and the wifi works!
We were in travel trailer.
