For Poplar Grove Campground: Looking for an easy stopover for the night... And thought we'd try Poplar Grove. Very nice little campground. The price was definitely right at $25 a night for full hook up and pull through. All grass sites so might be mucky in wet weather... Although no sign of that when we're here. All the utilities are new and no power issues. Sandy, who was one of the owners, was very friendly. Really nothing negative to say at all. The gravel road to the campground was a little concerning at the turn off from Hwy 1, but it was one of the best gravel roads I've been on in a long while. Very well graded and the campground is only a short distance... About a km. We stayed in a 35 ft motorhome without a toad. Well done!!

For Poplar Grove Campground: Nice little park that came as a welcome break from the tedium of driving through the badlands!
Everything we look for in a park - small, quiet, good free wifi, and cheap. We paid $25 per night that included electric, water, and sewage. They seem to have invested in good utilities - no power cuts or problems with water even in the cold.
Nothing really for people with children - they could get a bit bored here if they are very self-sufficient. But great for campers looking for a peaceful park at minimal cost.
There are washrooms - we didn't use them (too cold) - and laundry facilities.
Little town of Bassano is only 1km away and has a good convenience store, [bad] , hardware store, and liquor store.
The Esso station has a restaurant and there are a couple of restaurants in the town as well. The Esso says it sells diesel but not on the regular pumps, seems to be only for Cardlock customers. The nearest place for diesel is about 30km west on the way to Calgary. (People told us to fill up before going over the Rockies as gas/diesel are more expensive in BC!) It does have a propane fill tank though, which is handy.
The community centre in Bassano has an outdoor heated pool with a water slide, and we spotted an outdoor ice rink too.
Locals are friendly and so are the cows and horse in the field next to the camp.
The highway is near enough to be very convenient but far enough away to not be noisy. We heard a distant train in the night but to be honest we've never stayed at a park without being in earshot of a train!
Our fellow campers seemed to be mostly oil workers, all friendly.
This is a good park for you if you don't want lots of amenities, don't like being overcharged, and value good wifi.
